Joe Harden, a cornerback who played for the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers, tweeted, "You gotta do better @AdamSchefter!!! This is crazy! A man lost his life!!"
Schefter deleted the original tweet and posted this one in its place: “Dwayne Haskins stood out at Ohio State which turned into a first-round pick for Washington and played in Pittsburgh, according to his agent. Cedric Sanders was killed by a car this morning in South Florida. Haskins turns 25 on May 3."
It's been a tough year on Twitter for Schefter. After the grand jury decided not to indict DeShawn Watson for sexual assault, Scheft tweeted, "That's why DeShawn Watson welcomed the police investigation from the start: he felt he knew the truth would come out. And today, a grand jury did not indict him on any criminal charges."

Critics immediately lambasted Schefter, pointing to at least 22 women who accused Watson of sexual misconduct, arguing that the possible lack of evidence and the grand jury's decision did not absolve Watson legally, morally or ethically.

It was intended to provide insight into the strategy of Watson's legal team from a point of view. I should have known better. Born in Highland Park, New Jersey and raised in Middlesex County, Haskins was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers in January 2021 after being drafted by Washington in the first round in 2019. Washington Commanders owners Dan and Taras Snyder said in a statement: "We are devastated to learn of the tragic passing of Dwayne Haskins Jr. He was a young man with great potential, Contagious. To say our hearts are broken would be an understatement. Our hearts and prayers go out to Dwayne's family and all who knew and loved him."
Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Indiana Miranda confirmed the incident on Interstate 595 westbound. Haskins was pronounced dead at the scene.
Miranda did not say why Haskins, 24, was on the freeway at the time. The accident closed the freeway for several hours.

It's no coincidence that Watson was suspended for violating the league's personal conduct policy after being accused of sexual assault by dozens of women.
The piece, which everyone can see from Schefter, is full of pure image restoration and a general lack of skepticism about the narrative which he is more than willing to spread at the request of anyone in the Watson camp who wishes. The argument is that Watson's treatment program was a success. Of course, this report comes from unnamed sources that don't provide any real details on how Watson might improve.

Adam Schefter's willful ignorance when reporting stories of sexual assault or domestic violence made him a go-to choice for such coverage. We saw his cover of Dalvin Cook last November, for which he was heavily criticized. It's been a trend ever since some of his ESPN colleagues spoke out anonymously against his work.
Schefter even had to issue a semi-retraction after tweeting what amounted to Watson's innocence in blatant disregard for the workings of the justice system.

He admitted in his own clarification (no apology or retraction, to be clear, so we're not giving Adam credit for doing it either) that he was trying to give the perspective of Watson's camp that , uh, shouldn't be his character. Yes, "insiders" do this stuff all the time. It's not a big deal when it comes to details on player options or players unhappy with the franchise tag. It's a different story when it comes to cleaning up the image of players accused of domestic violence or sexual assault.
Schefter has demonstrated time and time again that he lacks the editorial judgment to cover these kinds of stories. After the final round, Schefter insisted he would rely more on his editorial team to help him call out such stories. ESPN, however, invested heavily in getting Schefter access and attention, and even more in extending his contract after Cook and Watson's initial issues.
